Ocean imagery seems to hold so many appropriate analogies for birth. There's the rhythm, the intensity, powerful forces of nature and such raw beauty. It is continuously ancient, yet brings forth the new. To journey through it requires a certain balance of surrender and self guidance. No one can make the voyage itself on behalf of another, yet we have landmarks. Maybe there is a witness on shore, or a north star to help stay on course. Possibly loved ones are waiting at the dock or a cozy island that was described is up ahead. Sometimes there is the reassurance of a lighthouse keeper to hold space, keep watch and cast light.
